Murugha Math chief sent to jail accused of sexual harassment

Lingayat Math chief Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was today sent to jail till September 14 on the orders of the court. Meanwhile, the case of Sharnaru's supporters threatening the NGO has come to the fore. This Mysuru-based NGO had helped the victims in registering a case against the head of the Math.

Sharnaru was produced in court after the end of his four-day police custody. The court ordered them to send him to judicial custody. The NGO has complained to the police about the constant threats and has requested for the safety of its members. A case was registered against Shivamurthy under the POCSO Act and SC ST Act after he was accused of sexually abusing two minor girl students of the high school. He was arrested by the police on Thursday and produced in court. The court sent him to four-day police custody. He was again produced in the court on completion of his police custody today.

The NGO has lodged a complaint with the police. It has been claimed that on September 3, there were threats of death from the members of the monastery. It has also been said in the complaint that the supporters and followers of Sant Sharanaru of Murugh Math are threatening to kill us by calling Stanley KV and ML Parashuram of our organization. Police should provide them with personal security as well as security for their families.

DNA and other tests done
Meanwhile, according to the investigators of the case, Sharnaru's DNA and potency test was done on Saturday. Its report will be presented in court. Sharanaru, who is associated with Jagadguru Murugarajendra Vidyapeeth Math, belongs to the politically influential Lingayat community in Karnataka. Lingayats are the largest community in Karnataka.

What is the matter?
In fact, five persons, including Shivamurthy Sharanaru, were accused of sexually assaulting two high school girls students. Based on the complaint of the district child protection unit officer, an FIR was registered against five people, including the warden of the hostel of the monastery. The minor girls had earlier approached the said NGO of Mysuru and informed about the misbehavior they had met during counseling.
